I wondered how a police detective in a small-to-medium city became an “expert” on white supremacism. This blogger, who seems to be trying to describe the trial fairly, shares my bemusement.

After reading the WaPo headline & AP story, I thought of the atrocity in Norway. The connection was suspiciously easy to draw, so I looked up the Wikipedia article on the case. As of this writing, it has 42 references; as of this writing, text searches for ‘white’ and ‘suprema’ came up empty.

So you don’t think being a fan of, or part of group, that espouses hatred might directly contribute to someone acting on their beliefs?

I think it has a lot to do with it.

I see no indication that you’ve read the second paragraph of my post, let alone clicked the hyperlinks.

Yes, because wikipedia is the end all be all of modern research. I live in Ventura County so I’ve been following this shit for along time, and I lived in Montecito (in neighboring Santa Barbara County) when the shooting happened, but the information was a simple Google search away jvic.

In McInerney’s notebooks, there were dozens of doodles of swastikas and logos of the Silver Strand Locals beach group that use the same imagery as Hitler’s SS. Along with historical books on Nazis, there were images of white power symbols and ones McInerney seemed to create himself that combined Germanic eagles, swastikas, white power images and symbols from an Oxnard punk music scene.

McInerney also shaved his head, and once yelled “white power” at the same teacher whose class he murdered King in. The Ventura County Star and the Santa Barbara Independent have a plethora of articles documenting this tragedy.

One more thing.

What the fuck does the size of Oxnard have to do with anything? It’s a city of almost two hundred thousand people. Only thirty thousand people live in all of Neshoba County, Mississippi, but I’ve heard that they know a thing or two about white supremacism. Oxnard is also majority Hispanic & Latino (73.5%), so the non Hispanic & Latino whites are outnumbered, and some of them do in fact have a chip on their shoulder about that.

You should learn more about southern California, then.

I did read your link, and that’s precisely why I’m stumped you’ve more or less skirted the issue and chose to blame the police testimony instead of the influence cited in the testimony.

Gang mentality. Ever heard of it?
